Ruth E. Simmer, 75, of Mt. Pleasant died Sunday, March 27, 2005 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday March 30, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Don Henkes presiding. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Beal City. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Commission on Aging or the Isabella County Medical Care Facility. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Ruth was born June 12, 1929, in Mecosta County, the daughter of Elton and Blanche (Kent) Carr. She graduated from Weidman High School in 1948. A year later she married Stephen Simmer on Aug. 20, 1949 at St. Joseph Church in Beal City. She worked 22 years as an attendant nurse for the Mt. Pleasant Regional Center before retiring in 1989. She has been a member of Sacred Heart Parish since 1994. She was previously a member of St. Joseph Church where she served on the altar society. Some of her favorite pastimes were playing cards, dancing, and reading. She also liked traveling to Las Vegas to gamble. Ruth is survived by four children, Janet Clare of Mt. Pleasant, Rodney (Barb) Simmer of Weidman, Pam (Rick) Weber of Mt. Pleasant, and Elton (Julie) Simmer of Weidman; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman (Rhea) Carr of Merrill; one sister, June (Doyle) Plank of Wheeler; three sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stephen in 1982; grandson, Jamie Clare in 1994; and a brother, Dalton Carr in 2003.
