Ruth M. Skelton, 68, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Farmington, Minn. passed away Monday, August 12, 2002 at Country Place Senior Care Center in Mt. Pleasant. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 16, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Friday from 10-11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Ruth was born March 12, 1934, in Farmington, Minn., the daughter of Raymond and Anne (Eiden) Murphy. She married Kenneth Skelton on April 16, 1954, at St. Thomas College Chapel in St. Paul, Minn. She was the former Director of Nursing at the Mt. Pleasant Regional Center. She also spent a year Gratiot Community Hospital as a public health nurse. She retired after teaching Health Education at Mt. Pleasant High School. Some of her favorite pastimes were reading, golfing and socializing with friends. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Mt. Pleasant Country Club. Ruth is survived by her husband of 48 years, Ken Skelton of Mt. Pleasant; six children, Laura (Stephen) Hudock of Cincinnati, OH, John (Cindy) Skelton of Andover, Minn., Paul (Carolyn) Skelton of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Mark Skelton of Mt. Pleasant, Julia (Clayton) Russell of Tallahassee, Fla., and Jeremy Skelton of Mt. Pleasant; nine grandchildren; and four sisters, Mary Piwoshuk of Colorado Springs, Col., Shirley (Bill) Rudy of Colorado Springs, Clare (Richard) Jorgenson of Albuquerque, NM, and Jane Woods of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, James Murphy.
