Sandra Jansen, 62, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at Woodland Hospice. Cremation has taken place and her memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at Mt. Pleasant Community Church, 1400 W. Broomfield. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the church or at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. Sandy was born June 6, 1948, in Detroit, the daughter of the late Frank and Auvril (Newsome) Starkey. She graduated from Mt. Clemens High School and attended Olivet College, where she met her future husband, Robert Jansen. A short time later she worked as a flight attendant for TWA, until they moved to Morocco. After a two year period there, they moved to Roscommon where her two sons, Ryan and Josh, were born. In 1983, they moved to Mt. Pleasant and she began pursuing her teaching certificate at Central Michigan University, where she ultimately received her masters degree. Sandy loved teaching. She spent 23 years in the Mt. Pleasant Public School system, including Rosebush Elementary, Mary McGuire Elementary, and finishing at Ganiard Elementary in 2010 due to illness. She loved animals, especially dogs, but the most important thing to her was her sons, extended family, and many friends and colleagues. Sandy is survived by her sons, Ryan (Kari) Jansen of Los Angeles, CA and their son, Rowan, Josh (Stacey) Jansen of San Diego, CA and their daughter, June; Ryans and Joshs father, Robert Jansen of Roscommon; five siblings, Susan Thompson of Highlands Ranch, CO, Dr. Sheryl Ludwig of Alamosa, CO, Dr. Neil (Marcia) Starkey of Albion, Synthia (Phillip) Fenaux of Dillwyn, VA, and Michael (Monica) Starkey of Sierra Vista, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
