Sharon Marie (Stangle) Tilmann, 77, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024, with her family by her side. Sharon was born on August 15, 1946, in Mt. Pleasant, daughter of the late Albert and Marie (Judge) Stangle. Sharon was a graduate of Central Michigan University, holding a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, a Master of Arts in Counseling, and a Master of Public Administration. She also studied Conflict Management and Dispute Resolution at the University of Cambridge in England. Sharon devoted her life to helping and improving the lives of others through her skills as a counselor, as a mediator, and through her involvement in her community. Sharon was a previous Director of Catholic Family Services, the Wrap-Around Program Coordinator for Listening Ear, and worked at CMU's Counseling Center for nine years before retiring in August 2013. She also had a private counseling practice, Associated Counseling Services, in downtown Mt. Pleasant from 1995 until 2018. Through this, she was also a member of the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce. Sharon was very active in the local community. She was on the Mt. Pleasant City Commission for many years serving as Mayor in 1998 and again in 2014 and was also twice Vice-Mayor. Sharon was elected to the Isabella County Commission in 2001 and served as Vice-Chairperson of the county commission 2003-2004. Sharon served on the Board of Directors for United Way, Middle Michigan Development Corporation, and the local Economic Development Corporation, and was also a member of the Volunteer Center Board and the former Isabella Child Protection Council. Sharon was on the faculty of the Michigan Judicial Institute where she facilitated training in Family and Divorce Mediation. She was a founding member of the Michigan Association of Court Mediators. In addition to accomplishments in both her professional career and her community at large, Sharon cultivated a rich personal and social world. She was always on-the-go and one could rarely go anywhere with her without having to wait through her many greetings and chats with people she ran into all over town. She had a profound love of animals, most especially her cats, as well as for books, movies, line dancing, ice cream (which occasionally served as her dinner) and art, of which she had a large collection. She also loved to travel, having visited friends and family around the country and twice traveling to Alaska to experience the excitement around the famous Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. Though she loved to travel near and far, a large part of her heart and soul resided in New Orleans where she visited as often as she could. Sharon loved holidays year-round but had a special adoration for Halloween with all of its decorations, festivities, and the hordes of trick-or- treaters that used to descend upon her neighborhood. Above all else, she loved people, helping, and supporting them achieve their goals, always striving to make a positive impact on everyone around her. She embodied the message that she held dear of "Walk On The Rocks That I Stumbled On." Sharon is grieved and missed by countless family, friends, and colleagues, but most especially by her immediate family Gwynn Tilmann-Holley, son-in-law Bradly Holley and grandson Caedyn Tilmann Holley of Mt. Pleasant; her sister Patricia Stangle-Krcmarik (David Krcmarik) of Mt. Pleasant; nephew Stephen Krcmarik of Mt. Pleasant; niece Victoria Krcmarik Wakeman (Christopher Wakeman), and great nephews David and Patrick Wakeman of Midland. A Celebration of Life for Sharon will take place on Sunday, July 14, 2024. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. A celebration service will begin at 4 p.m. Following the service, guests are invited to join the family for a celebration dinner party in the Lincoln Reception Center (attached to the funeral home). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Sharon Tilmann Scholarship for Future Counselors at CMU.
