Shirley Norene Wilkins

Shirley Wilkins, 91, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Mt. Pleasant Comfort Care. She was born April 9, 1930, in Alma, Michigan, daughter of the late John and Helen (Langin) Freeman. She married John Wilkins on June 12, 1949, at the Alma College Chapel. Shirley was employed as a secretary by Mary McGuire Elementary and West Intermediate (both in Mt. Pleasant) retiring in 1993. Some of her favorite pastimes included gardening, traveling, drawing, arts and crafts, and golfing in the couple's league at Riverwood. More than anything, Shirley loved her family, especially her grandchildren who called her "Nana". Shirley leaves behind her three sons, Kelly Wilkins, Casey (Gailee) Wilkins and Kevin Wilkins, all of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Allison, Jamey, and  Dylan Wilkins, Kelsey (Christian) Minnis, Jennifer (Charlie) Cline, and Katelyn (Sean) Carey of East Lansing; great grandchildren, Madison and Andrew Cline and Brynn and Declan Carey; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen Freeman; and brothers, Jack, Don, and Bill Freeman. Shirley's funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 3, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Daryl Amrozowicz officiating and will be livestreamed on the funeral home's Facebook page. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
