Stanley E. Block, 81, of Beal City died Monday, April 12, 2004 at home. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 16, at St. Joseph Church in Beal City with Father John Cotter officiating. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. There will be a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Visitation continues at the church on Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church or School. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Stan was born August 28, 1922, in Alma, the son of Edward and Marie (Coughlin) Block. He married Rita Halfmann December 1, 1945, at St. Philomena Church in Beal City. He was a lifelong farmer that loved the land. He always kept a close eye on the weather. Because of his wonderful sense of humor he named his farm Poverty Flats . Stan enjoyed traveling. He and his wife visited such places as Europe, the Netherlands, and Alaska. He also loved the outdoors, hunting with his buddies, and dancing. He was a member of St. Joseph Church and a charter member of the Beal City Knights of Columbus Council 3651. Stan is survived by his wife, Rita Block of Beal City; five children, Connie (Wayne) Schafer of Beal City, Michael (Lucinda Doneth) Block of Bath, Kathy (Steve) Block-Hier of Morton, Ill., Blaine Block of Beal City, and Pam (Lyle) Goward of Coldwater; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (Jim) Endres and Wenonah (Bill) Beltinck, both of Mt. Pleasant; brother, Lionel (Marion) Block of Beal City; two sisters-in-law, Darlene Block-Riley of Coldwater Lake and Leona Block-Benson of Morley; brother-in-law, Jock Ruhle of Coleman; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald Block and Richard Block; and sister, Millie Ruhle.
