Susan Murphy, 81, of Mount Pleasant passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at home with her husband by her side. Sue was born in Mount Pleasant on June 12, 1941, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, daughter of the late Joseph and Mildred (Masters) Breidenstein. Sue graduated as the co-salutatorian from Sacred Heart Academy in 1959, serving as class president. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in French from Central Michigan. On July 8, 1967, she married the love of her life, Tim Murphy, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt Pleasant. Sue taught in the Mt. Pleasant School system for over 40 years. She enjoyed time with the Pentwater girls who were her classmates from high school. They maintained a close relationship that continued with yearly trips. An avid reader, Sue developed numerous friends within her book club. More than anything, she treasured time with her family, especially her grandchildren whom she loved to spoil with shopping trips. She will be dearly missed by many. Sue is survived by her husband, Tim; son, Tim (Shannon) Murphy of Mt. Pleasant and their son Jameson, and son, Cary (Adriana) Murphy of Charlotte, NC and their daughter, Bella Shea; sister, Kay (John) Harris of Shepherd; and niece, Jodi (Don) Stevens of Grosse Pointe Shores. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mildred Breidenstein; and brother, Joe Breidenstein. Sue's funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 17, 2023, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Deacon Jim Damitio officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery. All are invited to join the family for a meal at Riverwood at the conclusion of the cemetery service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4–7 p.m. and on Monday one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider donating to the Sacred Heart Academy Foundation or the Kidney Transplant Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
