Theresa Schafer, 75, of Beal City passed away Friday, Dec. 29, 2006 at home, surrounded by her family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at St. Joseph The Worker Church in Beal City with Father Thomas J. McNamara presiding. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Sunday from 5-7 p.m. Visitation continues in the gathering room at St. Joseph Church on Monday from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the mass begins. A vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph The Worker School or to masses. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Theresa was born Oct. 30, 1931, in Nottawa Township, the daughter of Charles and Alma (Fox) Gross. She married Francis Schafer on July 9, 1955 at St. Philomena Church in Beal City. For 37 years she was the secretary at St. Joseph Parish, retiring in 1996. She also volunteered her time in the library at St. Joseph School and enjoyed gardening. Theresa is survived by her husband of 51 years, Francis Schafer of Beal City; four children, Dennis Schafer of Shepherd, Jane Agren of Cadillac, Dale (Deanna Potter) Schafer of Mt. Pleasant, and Duane (Jana) Schafer of Beal City; her daughter in-law, Lynn (Ken) Massey of Beal City; 13 grandchildren; one brother, Norman Gross of Beal City; two sisters, Irene (Bernie) Kellicutt of Shepherd and Elaine (Larry) Maxon of Mt. Pleasant; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Douglas Schafer; daughter-in-law, Donna Schafer; and son-in-law, James Agren.
