Thomas C Maier, age 73 of Weidman passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at McLaren Central Michigan Hospital.
Tom was born on November 19, 1947 to Clare Elton and Rita (Parish) Maier in St Johns, MI. He attended school in St. Johns, MI graduating with the class of 1966. After high school Tom started his path towards becoming a funeral director but got side tracked along the way and made other career choices. Tom worked numerous places including Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, City of Lansing Fire Department, Michigan Department of Corrections (as a fire safety inspector), Oak Grove Funeral Home and Brigham Funeral Chapel. Tom married Kathy Fisher on September 8, 1989 in Ovid, MI. In 2004 when Tom was 56 years old he attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago to finish what he had started after high school. In 2011 Tom and Kathy opened Maier Family Funeral Home in Weidman. The Lord has helped Tom and Kathy through some very tough and challenging times. Tom attended the Weidman Baptist Church, was a member of the Weidman Eagles # 4540, a past member of the Weidman Lions Club and even a Den mother for the boy scouts decades ago. He had inherited his father's Santa Suit and had played Santa many times. Most recently Tom had continued his love for the fire service by serving on the governing board for the Nottawa-Sherman Fire Department in Weidman, MI.
Tom leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Kathy; children, Shelly Thompson, Thomas C (Stacy) Maier, Jr., Lori Thompson, Chad (Tara) Carman, and Brad (Amy Jo) Carman; siblings, Barb (Robert) Harte, Terry (Marti) Maier, Cindy (Mike) Keilen, Karen (Mark) Smith, and Tim Maier, 18 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Nancy; daughter, Monica Lee-Carman Coopshaw; son-in-law, Ryan Joseph Coopshaw; and in-laws, Kenneth and Gwen Fisher.
An outside funeral service for Tom will be held on Friday, November 27, 2020 at 12:00 noon at Maier Family Funeral Home, 5483 W Weidman Road, Weidman, MI with Pastor Dean Willard officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral service from 10 to noon. You can choose to remain in your vehicle for the service or sit outside your vehicle in the parking lot. Feel free to bring a comfortable chair if you choose. Please be prepared and dress for the weather. Social distancing will be required and mask use will be required when social distancing is not possible. Burial will be at Fairfield Cemetery, Vincent Road, Carland, MI (crossroads of Vincent and Juddville Road).
The family would like to thank McLaren Central Michigan Hospital in Mt. Pleasant for the love and care in taking care of Tom and family. They went beyond expectations.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Tom's memory may be made to the Family.
