Thomas Schumacher, 77, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at MediLodge of Clare with his family by his side. Tom was born May 28, 1945, in Mt. Pleasant, son of the late Henry and Marian (Vincent) Schumacher. He graduated from Beal City High School in 1963 and married Dianne Bierschbach on May 1, 1965, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Beal City. Tom was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1966 and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1968 and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Tom was employed by the Isabella County Road Commission for many years, retiring in 2000. He enjoyed playing cards, farming, and was the owner and CEO of Big Tom's Sweet Corn (which his family plans to continue). Tom loved his family immensely. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Dianne; four children, Thomas (Mary) Schumacher of Warren, Jeffrey Schumacher of Marion, Jill (Matt) Irving of Mt. Pleasant, and William Schumacher (Emily Smith) of Jackson; eight grandchildren, Andrew and Christopher Schumacher, Robert and Rachel Schumacher, Keanon and Elena Irving, and Jason Kennedy and Dylan Schumacher; two brothers, Dick Schumacher of East Lansing and Bob Schumacher of Mt. Pleasant; and in-laws, Jerry (Geri) Bierschbach, Dick (Lola) Bierschbach, Bob Lyon, Judy Schumacher, Bill (Sharon) Bierschbach, Glen Bierschbach (Ann Gross), Kathy (Ron) Bontrager, Bernie (Amy) Bierschbach, and Barb (Tom) Diehm; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and in-laws, Tom and Carol Bierschbach, Bonny Lyon, and Gary Schumacher. Tom's funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 5, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Deacon Larry Fussman officiating. A luncheon will follow the service in Lincoln Reception Center (attached to the funeral home). Following the luncheon, burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and on Saturday one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph the Worker School. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
