Verna June Schurr

Verna J. Schurr, age 95, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017 at Green Acres in Mt. Pleasant. Verna was born on May 25, 1922 in Bad Axe, Michigan, the daughter of William and Mabel Hungerford Western. On September 18, 1943, she married Donald D. Schurr in San Angelo, Texas. Mr. Schurr died in 1991. Verna had been a resident of the Mt. Pleasant area since 2006 and was a registered nurse. She worked for Dow Chemical as an industrial nurse. Verna was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church. She loved golf, bridge, and to travel. Verna is survived by two children, Donald and Jan Schurr of Mt. Pleasant, and Alan and Nichole Schurr of Alamo, California; seven grandchildren, Alan Borges, Carolyn Schurr, Jonathon Schurr, Erica (Samuel) Barclay, Andrew Schurr, Laura Schurr, and Michael (Nikki) Brown; and four great grandchildren, Emelia Barclay, Caelan Barclay, Maddie Leonard, and Kendall Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Laurann Schurr; sisters, Laura (Eddie) Nellett , Eva (Marvin) Stube, and Bernita (Ed) Haertl; and a brother, Ralph (Beulah) Western. A private interment will take place in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Breckenridge at a later date.
