Vernie C. Rogers, 84, of Mt. Pleasant died Saturday, April 10, 2004 at Tendercare in Mt. Pleasant. A Mass of Chrisitian Burial celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. A vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Vernie was born Dec. 28, 1919, in Lansing, the son of Basil B. And Iva (Parks) Rogers. He married Margaret M. Swetz April 26, 1941 at Sacred Heart. A graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, Vernie was employed by Continental Aircraft in Muskegon and also worked in the oil fields. He owned and operated Enterprise Nursery and eventually retired from Dow Chemical in 1975. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and just being outdoors. He especially liked gardening, primarily tending to his iris garden. Vernie is survived by his wife, Margaret Rogers of Mt. Pleasant; seven children, Judy (Jack) Graham of Battle Creek, Richard (Ramil) Rogers of Ohio, Margaret (Rob) Kaczmarczyk of Mt. Pleasant, Patrick (Lynda) Rogers of Edmore, Mary (Jim) Denoyer of Petoskey, Vern Rogers of Iowa, and Anthony (Pam) Rogers of Kalamazoo; 24 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill (Nancy) Rogers of Mt. Pleasant; and one sister, Dorothy (Fred) Swan of Weidman. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Juanita Johnson; and son-in-law, Michael Colosky.
