Jean Merrifield, 76, of Mt. Pleasant passed away peacefully Saturday, May 4, 2002 at home with her family. Her funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Lux Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Bartlett of Prospect Park Church of God officiating. Burial will be in Salt River Cemetery in Shepherd. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan or to the Pardee Cancer Fund. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home Jean was born December 25, 1925, in Falmouth, the daughter of John H. and Jesse (Chrispell) Martin. She married Raymond F. Merrifield on December 25, 1948 in New Martinville, WV. She has lived in Mt. Pleasant most of her married life. She worked at J. C. Penny for nine years and volunteered her time at Commission On Aging for several years, once receiving the award for volunteer of the month. She bowled for many years with her sister-in-law, Millie Merrifield who preceded her in death by less than a week. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and her many special friends. She was a member of Prospect Park Church of God. Jean is survived by her children, Michael (Sally) Merrifield of Mt. Pleasant; Rita (Jim) Woodward of East Tawas, and James (Cathy) Merrifield of Saranac; grandchildren, Aaron Lloyd of Blanchard, Edward Merrifield of Mt. Pleasant and Caleb, Kelsey and Jillian Merrifield of Saranac. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray in 1982; her parents; and four siblings.
