Walter Fussman, 91, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Beal City, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 25, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Thomas J. McNamara presiding, Father Loren Kalinowski concelebrating, and Walters nephew, Deacon Larry Fussman assisting. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Beal City. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd. with the Vigil beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Thursday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the Isabella County Medical Care Facility. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Walter was born Jan. 25, 1918, in Beal City, the son of Henry and Minnie (Wagner) Fussman. His first marriage to Ann Frances Dozik on Sept. 15, 1951, produced a daughter, Christiane. After Anns death in 1977, he married Leona Lea Francis on Oct. 23, 1981, at St. Joseph Church in Beal City. A veteran of World War II, Walter was a Tech. Sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving from 1941-1945. He graduated from Beal City High School and attended trade school at Delta College. He was a supervisor for the laundry department at MidMichigan Hospital. One of his favorite pastimes was working on small engines, particularly lawn mowers. He was a life member of the Beal City Knights of Columbus Council 3651, the VFW Post 3033, and the American Legion. Walter is survived by his wife, Lea of Mt. Pleasant; daughter, Christiane (David) Konkle of Grass Lake; grandson, Kevin George (Katy Siu) Konkle of Ann Arbor; step-daughter, Lola Hooker of Portland, OR; step-son, Earl (Sharon) Francis of Lancaster, PA; step-daughter-in-law, Kay Francis of Fairgrove; sister, Rose Fox of Beal City; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ann; three brothers, Chris, Joe, and Ed Fussman; and two sisters, Annie Simmer and Sophia Schafer.
