Warren Spragg, 83, of Lake Isabella, passed away Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at Isabella County Medical Care Facility. His funeral will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., Mt. Pleasant MI 48858, with Pastor Kipfmiller of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and on Thursday one hour prior to the service. A second funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Spratt Methodist Church, 7440 M-65 S., Lachine, MI 49753 with Pastor Lisa Kelley officiating. Burial will be in Spratt Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Warren Spragg Scholarship Fund at Hillsdale College. Warren was born March 4, 1932, in Alpena, MI, son of the late Warren C. and Ann (Graham) Spragg Sr. At the age of two, his mother died and his father married Alma Black, who raised him as her own along with his four brothers. A 1950 graduate of Alpena High School he enrolled at Michigan State as a freshman where he played football for the National Championship Team in 1952. He transferred to Hillsdale where the team compiled a winning streak of 25 straight during his three years there. Warrens grid honors began in high school where he was named to the All American team and further honors included two years as an All Conference selection and nomination to the little All American team in 1955. He was selected in the 10th round by the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League and played from 1957-1958. On Jan. 28, 1961, Warren married Nancy Reif in Grosse Point, MI. He began a long and storied coaching career at several Michigan high schools including Bath, Oscoda, and Romulus before returning to Hillsdale College as an assistant under famed coach, Muddy Waters. After moving to Lake Isabella in 1975, he became principal of Chippewa Hills High School and remained there until his retirement as a teacher and coach in 1997. He also operated Universal Driving School for over 30 years for multiple generations. As a longtime hunter and outdoorsman, and true to his farming roots, Warren enjoyed the family strawberry farm in Spratt, in his leisure time. He especially loved spending time with his wife and family, as well as attending the sporting events of his sons and grandchildren. Warren is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy; two sons, Warren Clay Spragg III of Grand Rapids and Andy (Randi) Spragg of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; six grandchildren, Warren IV and John, and Chelsi, Drew, Rees, and Orion; three brothers, Jim (Pat) Spragg of Lake City, Wayne (Barb) Spragg of Rochester Hills and Michael Spragg of Alpena; sister-in-law, LaDonna Spragg of Terre Haute, IN; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dolores Kannowski-Lappan; and brother, Ted Spragg.
