Wayne J. Newman

Wayne J. Newman, 66, of San Diego, CA and formerly of Mt. Pleasant passed away Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009 at home. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., Mt. Pleasant with Joan Gornicki officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Wayne was born May 25, 1943, in Durand, Michigan, the son of the late Wayne F. and Marion (Post) Newman. He lived in Mt. Pleasant prior to moving to San Diego, CA in 1993. Wayne was a teacher for Beal City Public Schools in the late 1960s for 20 years and an instructor for CMU for 10 years. While teaching at Beal City he coached varsity football and boys varsity basketball in the 1970s. He also played football at Olivet College and Central Michigan University. Wayne was an avid reader and enjoyed exercising. He also loved nature and being outdoors. He especially enjoyed his grandsons visits. Family was very important to him. Wayne is survived by his daughter, Vickey (John Gordon) Newman of Weidman; two brothers, Daniel (Paula) Newman of Athens, OH, and Terrence (Karen) Newman of Swartz Creek; one grandson, Rannon Newman; lifelong friend, Janet Newman of Weidman; and several nieces and nephews.
