William Coughlin, 92, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Isabella County Medical Care Facility. Bill was born May 4, 1931, in Isabella County, Michigan (Lincoln Township) son of the late William J. and Dorothy M. (Grisdale) Coughlin. After graduating from Mount Pleasant High School in 1949, Bill served in the United States Air Force and was an Air Crew Member of the 305th Air Reserve Squadron in Selfridge Air Force Base. He became a Load Master Instructor for the C-130 aircraft. Including his enlisted and reserve dates of service, Bill proudly served his country for 31 years. He was employed by Dow Chemical for 30 years, retiring in 1985 as a Senior Lab Technician. Bill enjoyed lapidary (polishing stones), TV westerns, flying, golfing, and bowling. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish where he served as eucharistic minister and he was also a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus (Council 1297). Bill is survived by his daughter, Erin (Todd) Schorle of Mt. Pleasant; Erin's mother and forever friend, Sue (Dan) Woods of Vestaburg; brother, Terry (Evelyn) Coughlin of Mt. Pleasant; and several nieces, nephews and the Sobaski family. He was preceded in death by his parents, William (1990) and Dorothy (1992); sister, Irene Sosnicki (2021); in laws, John and Lenida Sobaski. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 8, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. with the Vigil Service beginning at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass for Bill will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, October 9, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski as celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to Mass. Following the Rite of Committal and military honors at Calvary Cemetery, all are invited to Lincoln Reception Center for a meal. Memorial contributions may be made to Isabella County Commission on Aging or Veterans4USA. Envelopes will be available at the church or funeral home. The Family requests that everyone wear a piece of green to share in Bill's love of his Irish heritage.
