William DeLong, 88, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at home with his family by his side. William was born on January 11, 1933, in Fremont Twp., son of the late Dennis and Laura (Reynolds) DeLong. William served in the US Army from 1951 – 1954. He married the love of his life, Barbara Bushong on April 21, 1953, in Berlin, NH. Together they raised their six children in Mt. Pleasant. William worked as a mechanic, for over 75 years, he worked for Lobdell Energy, Leo Beard, Gene Smith Auto, and Bob Perigo. He finished his working career at the Mt. Pleasant Public Schools as the head bus mechanic. William collected model cars. He enjoyed his garden, fishing, camping and traveling with his wife Barbara. William loved his grandchildren and will be greatly missed by many. William is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara; children, Deborah (Dan) Woodbury, William DeLong, Terry (Pat) Doyle, Dennis Delong, Jeffrey (Shanna) DeLong all of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Mindy, Laura, Jessica, Crystal, Sara, Steven, Caitlyn, Luke, and Zack; eleven great grandchildren; siblings, Walt (Judy) DeLong of Mt. Pleasant; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents; daughter, Tammy DeLong in 2012; brothers, Albert DeLong, Ira DeLong, Gene DeLong, and Wesley DeLong; sisters, Edna Williams, Helen Yarnell and Alice Minser; and granddaughter, Bobbie Jo Woodbury. A celebration of Williams life will be celebrated on Friday, August 20, 2021, at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home at 11a.m. with Daryl Amrozowicz officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. A luncheon will follow at the Lincoln Reception Center, located next to the Funeral Home.
