William Charles (Bill) LaHaie was born in Cheboygan, Michigan, the eldest child of Charles and Alice (Wartella) LaHaie. He is survived by his wife Darlene, children Andrew (Amanda) LaHaie and Allison (Bob) Nelson, siblings Eleanor (Jim) LeClair, Thomas (Jurawadee) LaHaie, Marcia (Greg) Bourrie, Pamela Crawford, Jayne (Don) Beem, Charles R. LaHaie, sister-in-law Kathleen Hall and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nephews, and nieces. He was a graduate of Michigan State University where he met his first wife Barbara. They welcomed a son and a daughter. In 1983, he married his second wife Darlene and welcomed her children Scott (Karen, deceased) Silcox, Tracy (Brian) Marek and Marcy (Devon) DeKett to his family. Bill loved many things in addition to his family: fishing (especially with his Grand Ledge, MI buddies), all children (he loved to tease them unmercifully), Veterans (he was a Veteran of the Vietnam War), reading, traveling, golf, tennis, music of any kind, teaching anything and anyone, dancing with Dar, MSU sports, cribbage (especially against Andy or Brian), eating, reunions and his beloved pooch, Chuckles. He was loved by his students in the Grand Ledge School District where he was a beginning teacher, principal and then later the Loucks one-room schoolhouse in Mulliken, MI where he was the teacher, principal, librarian, cook, dishwasher and janitor. He loved his profession. After retiring from Loucks, Bill and Darlene moved to Lake Isabella near Mt. Pleasant, MI and became Realtors for Century 21. He loved to socialize and never met a stranger. Bill retired in 2019 after being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and suffering its side effects. Many thanks to the caregivers, staff and Care Team at Crestwood Hospice in Mt. Pleasant for his thoughtful care and comfort the past two years. If desired, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Michigan State University Scholarship Fund, your local library, or animal shelter. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. A private family memorial has been scheduled. An additional celebration of Life will be held at Preston's in Grand Ledge at a later date.
