William Guy Riggs

William Guy Riggs, 89 passed away July 27, 2017 at the Masonic Home surrounded by his family. He was born June 21, 1928 in Lamberton, West Virginia to George & Blanche (Bumgardner) Riggs. Bill moved to Mt. Pleasant at the age of 9 and remained in the area the majority of his life. He married his best friend and love of his life for 56 years, Matilda, on November 25, 1961. He was retired from the Ironworkers Local #25, having worked as an ironworker & rigger for the majority of his life. Bill proudly served in both the Army Air Corp and the Air Force. He is a past member of the Moose Club and the American Legion. Bill loved to spend time with his family and could be found at any event his grandchildren were involved in, be it a band concert, choir concert, plays, robotics competition or at the fair watching them show animals. In addition to making every effort to be with his family at every opportunity, Bill also made every effort to be an excellent provider, often spending hours on the road away from home to make sure of this. He was a man of integrity, and a man of few words, but was always available for his wisdom and sound advice, and could be relied upon to always be available to those in need, regardless of how busy he was. He loved his family very much, and made sure they knew how proud he was of each of their accomplishments. Bill is survived by his wife Tillie, daughter Lisa and son-in-law Gerry Sims of Shepherd, grandchildren Samantha and Kyle Sims, daughter Michelle Herbert, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Betty Atkinson & Mary Gardner, brothers Robert Riggs & George "Junior" Riggs and niece Kelly Riggs.
