William H. Rohloff

William Bill Rohloff, 71, of Canadian Lakes and formerly of Warren, passed away Monday, June 6, 2011, at his home. He was born Dec. 30, 1939, in Saginaw, son of the late Carl P. and Ruth H. (Benjamin) Rohloff. On July 27, 1963, he married Jeanne Johnson in Pontiac. Bill spent 36 years as an educator, mostly in East Detroit. He was the former girls basketball coach at Oakwood Middle School and East Detroit High School. He was also an assistant football coach at East Detroit High School. Bill loved golfing, watching sports, supporting Detroits pro sports teams, and had a special interest in U of M sports. In 1999 he and his wife retired to Horsehead Lake where he had built a cottage. Since 2000, they have been spending their winters at their condo in Naples, FL. He moved to Canadian Lakes in 2006. Bill is survived by his wife of nearly 48 years, Jeanne; three children, Christine (Keith) Sutherland of Flower Mound, TX, Susan (Eric) Miller of Macomb Township and Steven (Kim) Rohloff of Homewood, AL; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Connor, Keaton, Collin, Olivia, Alyssa, and Reeves; and three brothers, Carl, John and Robert. His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., Mt. Pleasant. Burial will be in Martiny Cemetery in Mecosta County. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1-8 p.m. and on Thursday one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society (20450 Civic Center Rd., Southfield MI 48076), Ferris State University (checks payable to Ferris State University, Prakken 101, 420 Oak St., Big Rapids MI 49307), or East Detroit Federation of Teachers Scholarship Fund (checks payable to EDFT Scholarship Fund, 30092 Mirage Ct., Warren MI 48093).
