Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions about our pet cremation services. If you need additional support or would prefer to speak with someone directly, please know we are always here to help. You may reach us at 989- 773-5616.
WHAT ARE YOUR BUSINESS HOURS?
Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
If you need assistance outside of these hours, please call our 24-hour answering service at (989) 773-5616. A member of our staff will return your message on the next available business day.
DOES MY PET’S CREMATION TAKE PLACE IN THE SAME CHAMBER AS HUMAN CREMATIONS?
No. By law, animals and humans may not be cremated in the same cremation chamber. Pet cremations are performed in equipment designated exclusively for animal care.
WILL MY PET BE CREMATED WITH OTHER ANIMALS?
No. We offer private pet cremation only. Your pet is placed into the cremation chamber individually, ensuring their cremated remains are returned solely to you.
After the cremation is complete, your pet’s remains are carefully processed and returned in an urn of your choosing. A variety of urns and keepsakes are available on our Services & Merchandise page.
WHAT TYPES OF PETS DO YOU CREMATE?
We provide cremation services for a wide range of pets, including:
- Dogs and cats
- Rabbits, guinea pigs, and ferrets
- Birds and reptiles
- Other exotic pets
Please note that we are unable to cremate pets weighing more than 300 pounds.
WHAT TO DO WHEN A PET PASSES
Losing a pet can feel overwhelming, and it’s normal to be unsure of what to do next. To help make arrangements as simple and stress-free as possible, we encourage families to use our online portal at www.luxfuneralhome.com/petcremation
Through the online portal, you can:
- Request home pickup, drop-off, or veterinary transfer
- Select urns or memorial keepsakes
- Share special instructions or requests
WHAT IF MY PET PASSES AWAY AT HOME?
If your pet passes at home, we recommend keeping the room as cool as possible. If your pet is small enough and you feel comfortable doing so, you may gently wrap them in a blanket and place them in a cooler or freezer until services can be provided.
This will not affect the cremation process in any way.
Many families choose to:
- Keep a collar or tag
- Clip a lock of fur
- Send a small, meaningful item with their pet
These personal touches are always welcome.
WHAT IF MY PET PASSES AT THE VETERINARIAN’S OFFICE
If your pet passes at a veterinary clinic, or if you have a scheduled euthanasia appointment, please let us know in advance.
We are happy to coordinate directly with your veterinarian to ensure a smooth and respectful transfer.

HOW DO YOU ENSURE THE CREMATED REMAINS I RECEIVE ARE MY PET’S?
We understand how important this question is. Your trust matters deeply to us. From the moment your pet is placed in our care, they are tracked through a comprehensive identification and documentation system. Each pet is assigned a unique identification that stays with them throughout every step of the process, from intake, to cremation, to the return of cremated remains.
We perform private cremations only, and our team follows strict protocols and verification checks to ensure accuracy and accountability at every stage. This careful, methodical approach allows us to confidently return your pet’s cremated remains to you
with dignity and certainty.
HOW WILL MY PET’S ASHES BE RETURNED?
Your pet’s cremated remains will be carefully placed in an urn and returned to you. We offer a selection of urns and memorial keepsakes to help you honor your pet’s life in a meaningful way.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECEIVE MY PET’S CREMATED REMAINS?
Your pet’s cremation is handled with great care and attention. In most cases, cremated remains are returned within 10–14 business days. If there are any unexpected delays or special circumstances, our team will keep you informed every step of the way.
HOW WILL I BE NOTIFIED WHEN MY PET’S CREMATED REMAINS ARE READY?
Once your pet’s cremation is complete and the cremated remains are ready, a member of our team will contact you to let you know they are available for pickup. We will coordinate a time that works best for you and provide clear guidance on next steps so the process feels simple and unhurried.
